2001
Charles Dons en Marcel van Gastel krijgen in november het lumineuze idee om Halsteren en omstreken onveilig te maken met een skaband.
Na het zoeken van muzikanten zal de formatie zich tot The Palookas omdopen.
2002
Het eerste optreden vindt plaats op 13 april. Het blijkt geen ongeluksdatum. In de lokale Surfclub aan de Boulevard in Bergen op Zoom brengt de band 8 nummers, en tijdens It’s all fucked up en de Vikingsong is het publiek meteen mee!
Het eerste jaar wordt hard gewerkt aan een set en de groep speelt op lokale podia en doet mee aan bandwedstrijden.
2003
Het Palookavirus verspreidt zich snel. De vrolijke, opzwepende muziek blijkt geschikt voor jong en oud. De groep wordt dan ook en graag geziene gast binnen het Nederlandse clubcircuit.
2004
De publieke belangstelling voor The Palookas wordt breder en breder. 3FM toont interesse. Voor het eerst knallen de klanken van de band landelijk door de ether! Op 16 mei presenteert de band de tweede cd The Warming Up. De cd blijkt niet alleen geschikt voor de die-hard skafans, de muziek blijkt een breder publiek aan te spreken.
Daardoor staat de zomer van de goed geoliede feestband volledig in het teken van de buitenfestivals. The Palookas reizen stad en land af en laten het hart van duizenden muziekliefhebbers harder kloppen. Op 10 juni spelen de mannen zowaar op 3 festivals op 1 dag! Als klap op de vuurpijl mogen The Palookas als vaste supportact van de befaamde Amerikaanse skaband The Toasters gaan fungeren. De succesvolle tour trok de aandacht van Boombax, hét skalabel, managementbureau en boekingsbureau van skaminnend Nederland. The Palookas tellen nu echt mee en op de valreep vertrekt de band ook nog voor een flitstoer naar Duitsland. Daar volgen vier heerlijke shows, waarvan de laatste megashow in Postdam gerust als groots omschreven kan worden!
2005
De gesprekken met Boombax verlopen zo goed dat de samenwerking bekrachtigd wordt. The Palookas zijn plots labelgenoten en collega’s van Def P & The Beatbusters en Rude Rich and the Highnotes! In februari speelt de band in een uitverkochte Melkweg in Amsterdam op Dutchska, het grootste skafestival dat Nederland op dat moment rijk is. Kort daarna volgen vele optredens elders in het land. Daarbij zitten mooie festivals als Breda Barst in Breda, Metropolis in Rotterdam en Paaspop in Schijndel. Fans blijken er dan ook al in alle uithoeken van de wereld te zitten: in oktober wordt een track van The Palookas opgenomen op een verzamelalbum in Indonesië! In december is er even minder goed nieuws: Trombonist Ivo van Nispen verkiest een zeilcarrière boven die op zijn trombone, en besluit de band te verlaten. Toetsenist Arjen Rommens krijgt het alleen maar drukker; hij valt een aantal maanden in bij Mark Foggo's Skasters.
2006
Het jaar begint gelijk goed. In januari voegt trompettist René Kabboord uit Amsterdam zich bij The Palookas. De formatie komt daarmee weer op oorlogssterkte. Precies op tijd, omdat er dan opnieuw een uitnodiging van Dutchska op de mat valt. The Palookas zijn dus wederom van de partij op het grootste Nederlandse Skafestival. Tijdens de wervelende show op het dit jaar in de Eindhovense Effenaar gehouden festival presenteert de band meteen de nieuwe cd The Right Choice. De band krijgt in de loop van het jaar een nog grotere Amsterdamse delegatie muzikanten als ook Niek Melchers (trombone) en Bart Heijs die bassist Tim Kemperman vervangt, tot de groep toetreden. Prachtige optredens die volgen zijn die op het grote Bevrijdingsfestival in Wageningen, het nachtelijke IO Festival voor Delftse studenten, het Be There Festival in Willem 2 in Den Bosch en in een wederom uitverkochte Melkweg als support van Tokyo Ska Paradise. De Nederlandse media uit lovende woorden aan de band in onder meer Fret, Hitkrant, Music Maker en Up Magazine.
2007
De band introduceert de term skarock, omdat alleen ska de lading niet meer dekt. Op 19 januari neemt de groep een live-cd op in Mezz in Breda. Het publiek vóór het podium mag net zoveel feest en lawaai maken als de bandleden erop. The Palookas gaan dat jaar ook steeds vaker abroad; in maart is het nog net de grens over naar België, in april wordt het een weekendje Duitsland, maar in mei volgt een eerste EU-tour langs steden in Duitsland, Polen, Tsjechië, Oostenrijk, Hongarije en Slowakije. Op de site 3voor12 van de VPRO houdt de band een tourverslag bij. Niek verlaat de band, maar in Bergenaar Bram Stoffels wordt snel een vervanger gevonden. Hij mag op 3 juni meteen meeblazen tijdens de drie cd-presentaties (in Winston, Amsterdam, in ’t Slik in Bergen op Zoom en in de Popcentrale in Dordrecht) van het in Mezz opgenomen album Better Live Than Never. De groep toert vervolgens in de maanden september, oktober en november tijdens de Popronde door Nederland om daar vervolgens geheel op eigen wijze nog een Better Live Than Never Tour aan vast te koppelen!
2008
De meest historische gebeurtenis uit het geschiedenisboek van The Palookas is wellicht het tekenen van een internationale record deal met het Amerikaanse Megalith label. Via dat label verschijnt de in Nederland via Boombax Music gedistribueerde cd nu ook in een groot deel van de rest van Europa én de Verenigde Staten! Champagne!
Ook speelt de band die zomer op grote internationale ska/punk festivals. Zo speelden ze op het Potsdamer Ska fest in Duitsland en ze waren afsluiter van het met 30.000 man bezochte Mighty Sounds in Tsjechië.
Deze ervaringen zorgden voor de juiste moraal om vol goede moed te gaan denken aan de opnamen van een nieuw studioalbum. Tussen de bedrijven door werd Bram weer ingeruild voor Niek; zijn landing op het oude nest verliep geruisloos.
2009
De opnamen in de studio vorderen gestaag, de sound blijft energiek en dansbaar! De groep zet zelfs het aantal optredens even op een laag pitje om de vele nieuwe tracks die songschrijver Charles in de aanloop hiervoor geschreven heeft precies de juiste aandacht te kunnen geven. Daarna moet aan de moeilijke selectie begonnen worden.
Ook komt er plots iets heel anders op hun pad: Bazz, de frontman van de Neder-rockband VanKatoen zoekt contact met The Palookas. Het idee ontstond om 14 songs van VanKatoen in een Palookas-versie te gieten. In record tempo van drie maanden kregen ze een skaversie en er wordt een single met bijbehorende EP opgenomen. Met frontman Bazz wordt er vervolgens getoerd onder de naam Bazzookas!

Put on your skanking shoes, The Palookas are here!! The Palookas exist since 2001 and played lots of shows in- and outside the Netherlands since then. They played twice at the Dutch Ska Festival (number one ska festival in The Netherlands) and shared the stage with lots of bands like The Toasters, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Mad Caddies, Mark Foggo’s Skasters and The Selecter.
They’ve recorded their third CD (Live!) on January 19th, 2007. All cd’s CD’s were received very well by the Dutch audience and press and got them lots of shows! The Live CD, called “Better Live than Never” is released by Boombax Music in 2007. In 2008 the Palookas signed an international record deal with Megalith Records.
The Palookas are ready to make Europe dance! Besides the many gigs in The Netherlands, The Palookas have toured through Europe in May and December 2007 and had several short trips to Belgium, Germany and Czech Republic! On this moment, the band is in the middle of producing a new cd in their own studio. Untill then; check them out!

2001
Charles Dons and Marcel van Gastel get the luminous idea of starting a ska band to rock the Halsteren area. Having found the right musicians, the formation was christened The Palookas.
2002
The band’s first show takes place on April 13. A lucky number indeed: at Bergen op Zoom’s local surfclub, The Palookas perform eight songs and the audience appears very susceptible to their music. It’s All Fucked and The Viking Song get the people dancing!
The band spent their first year writing, while playing local venues and joining band competitions.
2003
The Palookavirus spreads quickly: the band’s upbeat and energetic music is enjoyed by every generation. The Palookas soon become a welcome guest in the Dutch club circuit.
2004
The public’s attention for the Palookas grows and grows. Even 3FM (Holland’s number one alternative radio station) shows interest: for the first time, the band’s tunes were revealed to listeners throughout the country.
The second cd, entitled The Warming Up, is released on the 16th of may, and is immediately appreciated by a larger audience: not just the ska die-hards! Subsequently, the band commit their summer to playing outdoor festivals. In doing so, The Palookas travel all around the country, pleasing thousands of music fanatics. On May 10, the band even manage to play three festivals in one day!
To top it off, The Palookas are invited to be support act for the famous US ska band The Toasters. Due to this tour, the attention is attracted of Boombax, the label, management and booking agency for ska loving Dutchees.
It’s safe to say that by now The Palookas are officially established as a national act. As if that wasn’t enough, the band leave on a flash tour to Germany. Four shows take place, the last of which, a mega-show in Potsdam, can easily be described as AWESOME!
2005
Talks with Boombax lead into a close collaboration. Suddenly, The Palookas share label and scene with greats like Def P & the Beatbusters and Rude Rich & the High Notes. In February, the band play at Dutchska festival, at that time Holland’s biggest ska festival, selling out the Melkweg in Amsterdam. Shortly after, many shows throughout the country ensue. Among these are the beautiful festivals of Breda, Rotterdam and Paaspop in Schijndel. Fans turn out to be in every corner of the world: in October, The Palookas appear on a compilation in… Indonesia! December brings the first bad news: Trombone player Ivo Nispen chooses to pursue a carreer in sailing, and decides to leave the band. Also, keyboard player Arjen Rommens has a lot of work on his hands: he fills in for Mark Foggo’s Skasters for several months.
2006
The year starts off well. Trumpet player René Kabboord from Amsterdam joins the band. This bring The Palookas back to battle strength. Right on time, for another Dutchska invitation has arrived! The band is accordingly on the bill for Holland’s biggest ska festival for the second year in a row. During the roaring show, this year held in Eindhoven, the Palookas present their new cd: The Right Choice.
The Amsterdam delegation grows quickly, as trombone player Niek Melchers joins the band, and bassist Bart Heijs replaces Tim Kemperman.
Some of the many beautiful gigs that follow are those on Bevrijdingsfestival in Wageningen, IO festival for students of Delft, the Be There Festival in Den Bosch and, once again, in a sold out Melkweg opening for the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. The Dutch media enthuse over the band in many periodicals such as Fret, Hitkrant, Music Maker and Up Magazine.
2007
The Palookas introduce the term skarock, for ska alone no longer suffices. The band record a live album at Mezz in Breda on January 19th. The crowd parties hard in front of the stage … as do the band members on top of it. The Palookas spend more time abroad; just over the border to Belgium in March, a German weekend in April, but in May the band play their first Europe tour to cities in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Slovakia. The band post tour updates on the 3voor12 website – 3voor12 is a popular show on Dutch public radio. Trombonist Niek leaves the band, and Bram Stoffels takes over his place. Early in June, he performs with the band on three release parties for Better Live Than Never, a live album recorded at Mezz in Breda. The Palookas tour The Netherlands with the Popronde (a national band contest) during September, October and November, and afterwards manage to add the Better Live Than Never Tour!
2008
The most memorable event in the Palookas book of history may very well be signing an international record deal with Megalith. On this label, their cd – distributed by Boombax in The Netherlands – hits the stores in a large part of Europe, and the US! Champagne! Also, the band play major international ska/punk festivals such as Potsdam Skafest (Germany) and Mighty Sounds (Czech Republic). The band headlined the latter, a festival visited by 30,000 people. These experiences brought new energy and courage to start preparing for the recording of a new studio album. In the mean time, Bram is replaced by Niek; his return to familiar grounds went smoothly.
2009
The studio recordings are coming along nicely, the sound stays energetic and swinging! The band even simmer down on playing live, to give proper attention to the songs Charles had written. Afterwards, the tough process of selecting has to take place…
For something totally different: Bazz, frontman of Dutch rock/metal band VanKatoen contacts The Palookas. The idea arose to cover fourteen VanKatoen songs, Palookastyle. In a mere three months, the “skadaptations” were made and a single released, accompanied by an EP. With frontman Bazz, the band tour under the name The Bazzookas!
